Don’t wait, you can start now.

You

The word you're looking for is interesting...🤨

Healthcare leaders that I work with are saying 'tough' 'rough', 'brutal', and 'frustrating' so it makes sense to be hanging on for 2025. When we can hit that magical refresh button of the new year and we can all start again. 🎉

I'm all for resetting, marking moments, and acknowledging key times. Here's the thing, though: if you know something needs changing, waiting for January 1st will put you a month behind. And I don’t think we’ve got the time for that.

Here's our chance to get ahead (and when was the last time that happened).

While the challenges look huge, the actions to take are all small steps. And when you break it down to the small steps, then you have way more control than it feels like right now.

Now when I say change, I don't necessarily mean start something new. If it's overwhelming and you can't see the wood for trees, more might not serve you. You can ask, what can you stop doing?

Consider this from a mind, body, emotions and connection lens what could you stop (or start) from now - no need (or reason) to wait till the midnight dings on Dec 31st.

Mind

Stop overthinking and ruminating at the end of your day so that you sleep and feel rested in the morning.

Maybe start doing a focused reflection, so you close the day, and pick up insights that will help you for tomorrow.

Body

Stop grabbing the snacks, biscuits and cake because you need a sugar high halfway through the day (I may be talking about myself here).

Maybe start drinking more water.

Emotions

Stop trying to crush everything down and contain them in a box and tell everyone you’re fine.

Maybe you can start sharing with a trusted close friend or confident in safety.

Connections

Stop choosing to spend time with those who you know drain your energy (this might be a limit, or reduce action, rather than stop - either way - it’s a good point to pause and notice who does drain your energy and who lifts it up).

Maybe start making sure you’re creating and having at least one coffee (or beverage of your choice) date a week with someone who lifts you up and raises your spirits.
