Trust is built in small moments and 20 reasons why I should trust you.
How does it feel to trust someone? How do you know that you can trust someone?
Tougher question - how does someone know that they can trust you?
Trust is a topic I keep writing about because it's a topic I keep hearing about at work. When we talk about the challenges of change or the delivery of anything new in healthcare, when we ask staff to do something different, and when we aren't sure if we are seeing or hearing about the whole picture - these things - they all have trust - or the lack of it at the core. Being able to answer those questions on how you trust and how people trust you - is the work you have to do.
This past email helped draw out the layers of what is involved in trust. Using the work of Brené Brown trust is braving connection with someone. Connection requires vulnerability, which is why this is not easy stuff. She uses the acronym BRAVING to enable a conversation about trust that gets to specifics and breaks it down to take it one step at a time.
A metaphor she uses when talking about trust is that of the marble jar. Now I tried to put this story into words a few times and can't do it justice - so a short video for this one.......
It is then the little things that create trust - what does that look like. Take a look at this list - 20 reasons why I trust you.
What would your list look like?
